Pride

I have just picked up a book by Jon Katzenbach called ‘Why Pride Matters More Than Money’. If you haven’t come across Katzenbach before I can highly recommend him as the co-author of one of the best books on team dynamics, “The Wisdom of Teams”. The title intrigued me. I am not sure how much pride people generally feel about the work they do. I am not sure how much pride figures in the thinking of business owners and business leaders. Perhaps it should or could figure more.

The Role of Management

Times are changing and inevitably as we live in a time of ever quickening change some things get left behind. I think that the art of selling is something which is much rarer now than it was before, as is the art of conversation. Not all of this is regrettable and it is not all desirable either.

Dangerous Sports

I love rugby. I used to enjoy playing it when I was younger and now I love watching it at almost any level. Thinking about the game the other day I realised just how dangerous it is; how many players are injured at any point and how often good players seem to disappear never to return to the game.

Education

“If you think education is expensive, try ignorance”. So they say. And they would be right. I would also argue that he relative cost of education has dropped significantly over recent years. I would even argue that if you don’t want a qualification then education, or more accurately, knowledge costs you nothing.
