There should be a law against it.

I am philosophically almost totally opposed to regulation. However there is one specific area where we are, as yet, unregulated and where there is an obvious need for some form of forced control. That is the area of leadership, management and supervision. Almost weekly I feel compelled to abandon my beliefs and wish for some form of licensing before people are allowed to have formal power over their fellow humans.

Our Greatest Gift

Stephen Covey once said that “Next to life itself, the power to choose is your greatest gift”. We should never forget it. As people, as humans, as mankind, we get to choose. We get to choose our attitude; we get to choose our reaction. We get to choose whether to speak, or to hold our peace. We get to choose how we are going to spend our time. We get to choose so much, every minute of every day.

To know and not to do....

As the saying goes “To know and not to do is not yet to know”. We live in a world where knowledge no longer has the value that it once had. Every one of us has the ability to look like and sound like a world expert. Every one of us could dominate the pub quiz, stun our children into open mouthed amazement as we watch University Challenge or Mastermind if we had the time and dexterity to access the right search engine quickly enough. As knowing has become easier is has become ever more devalued. We all have access to as much knowledge as we can use.

What a gift

I had an amazingly insightful and privileged experience recently. An organisation, of which I am a part, hired an external consultant to survey the members of the organisation in order to be able to communicate the thoughts and feelings of the members back to the organisation.
